Main Focus
 |
The
concerns of the musician Paul Hindemith, his open attitude towards
the new and unknown, his great knowledge of (nearly) all instruments
and his curiosity in the field of playing historical instruments
will remain future points of emphasis in the work of the Hindemith
Music Centre, just as they have always been in the past. Hindemith's
far-reaching interests enable the Centre to carry out a variety of
courses, workshops, and seminars of widely varying content, in his
spirit. This is a duplicate of Hindemith's work, taking place in the
field of |
|
· the
practising musician and conductor on the highest professional
level,
· the teacher and researcher as well as
· the musician who works with children and amateurs.
|
For this
reason, courses on three levels will continue to be offered:
|
·
advanced training courses of all kinds for musicians,
· young musical talents are encouraged in master courses,
· musical activities in the area of amateur education are
encouraged and stimulated.
|
Since
Hindemith was always active as a music organiser and held a professorship
in Zurich in musicology in addition to his practical activities, the Music
Centre also views itself as a meeting place for specialists who will
continue to meet in the coming years at
|
·
composers' seminars and
· in discussions between composers, interpreters and
musicologists.

Music
and Medicine
Discussions and seminars in the area of "Music and Medicine" are
to draw attention to two subjects:
1.
Preventative measures against specific musicians' ailments will be
introduced, as well as
2. Possibilities for collaboration in investigating the influences of
music on the brain and psyche.
The courses
on prevention of specific musicians' illnesses caused by defective posture
will be led by physicians and therapists with musical training and who
therefore know and understand the problem "from both sides".
This will
be carried out in cooperation with the Swiss Association for Music and
Medicine www.musik-medizin.ch, the Medicinal Society for
Creative Artists and Music Orthopaedists and Art and Medicine in Germany www.arts-medicine-europe.org.
